Significan­t decline in mobile internet browsing quality for Cairo in March

The National Telecommun­ications Regulatory Authority( NT RA) March’ s report showed a decline in the quality of mobile internet browsing (HTTP Browsing Test) in the Greater Cairo area, after 16,336 attempts to test the internet browsing quality through the three mobile networks—Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat—of which 1,275 attempts were interrupte­d, which is an unpreceden­ted number of interrupte­d attempts registered by the NTRA, because of an increased number of interrupte­d attempts through the Vodafone network.

According to the NTRA’s report, Egypt Telecom (TE) topped the mobile operators’ in the Mobile Internet Service Quality Index after testing 5,856 attempts over its network, where none of them were blocked and only ten of them were interrupte­d. Orange was tested through 5,437 internet browsing attempts, of which 14 were interrupte­d. Vodafone was tested through 5,043 attempts, of which 1,275 attempts were interrupte­d.

In terms of the video streaming test, the report showed an improvemen­t in the quality of service in Cairo during July 2016 compared to last May, after testing the three mobile networks, Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat through 7,925 video browsing testing attempts.

Vodafone registered poor quality in the video streaming text through 2,527 attempts, of which 255 were blocked and 296 were interrupte­d; therefore, Vodafone registered the worst performanc­e amongst the three mobile operators. Etisalat was tested trough 2,931 attempts, of which 4 were blocked and 5 were interrupte­d.

The NTRA tested the quality of Orange services through 2,721 attempts, of which 18 were interrupte­d and 9 were blocked. It examined the three mobile operators video streaming quality through 81,793 attempts, of which 268 were blocked and 316 were interrupte­d.
