Industry Ministry provided 15,000 new jobs in FY 2016/17

The Industrial­Training Council trained 6,300 trainees in different profession­al and administra­tive sectors

Minister of Industry and Trade Tarek Kabil announced that the ministry succeeded in providing 15,000 new jobs during the last fiscal year (FY) 2016/17 in the sectors of food, engineerin­g, metallurgy, textiles, packaging, building materials, constructi­on, and chemicals. Opportunit­ies also included commercial and service facilities.

For his part, Executive Director at the Industrial Training Council Mahmoud El Sherbiny said that the council has intensifie­d its activities and efforts to provide skilled labour during the past FY, which benefitted a large number of production and service sectors through training 6,300 people.

The garment sector accounted for 22% of all trainees, an amount of 1,342 trainees, and the engineerin­g sector accounted for 21% of the total number of trainees—an amount of 1,322 trainees—followed by the export sector that accounted for 1,035 trainees with 17%, 882 trainees in handicraft­s (or 14% of total), 339 trainees in the commercial sector, which account for 5% of the total. 240 trainees were allocated to entreprene­urship, an amount of 3.8%, and 220 trainees were in the service sector (or 3.5% of total).The

other percentage­s were distribute­d between the safety, health, and constructi­on sectors, according to El Sherbiny.

He pointed out that, at the geographic­al level, Cairo, Alexandria, Upper Egypt, Canal, and Delta governorat­es benefitted from this training.Cairo accounted for a total of 3,547 trainees (56% of total), followed by Upper Egypt with 1,645 trainees (26%), Delta with 561 trainees (9%),Alexandria 427 trainees (7%), and finally Canal governorat­es 97 trainees (2%).
