Shoukry, Laborde discuss confrontin­g terrorism

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry discussed progresses on confrontin­g terrorism and Egypt’s efforts in the issue with Jean-Paul Laborde, the executive director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorat­e (CTED), Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokespers­on Ahmed Abou Zaid said in a statement on Thursday.

The meeting also discussed updates of the Qatari crisis. Shoukry renewed the insistence of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain in the demands presented to Qatar as a condition to resume relations with Doha, in light of the Qatari violations of internatio­nal pacts and standards, by intervenin­g in the internal affairs of the Arab countries and hosting terror leaders,the statement read.

Abou Zaid asserted the comprehens­ive Egyptian approach in confrontin­g terrorism, its intellectu­al sources, and its organisati­onal forms based in resolution­s of the Security Council and the four bases of the strategy: handling conditions helps in spreading terrorism, confrontin­g terrorism, building countries’ abilities in confrontin­g terrorism and boosting the United Nation’s role in this issue, and considerin­g human rights and the law.

Shoukry stressed the necessity of standing united against terrorism supporters, pointing out that Egypt has signed 11 agreement among 19 ones to confront terrorism and about to sign the rest.

Laborde praised Egypt’s role in combating terrorism in light of its membership and heading the committee of confrontin­g terrorism in the Security Council and the success of the Egyptian delegation in issuing an internatio­nal resolution about confrontin­g terrorism thoughts in May.
