SAP discusses investment opportunit­ies in mechanisat­ion and New Administra­tive Capital projects with the government

There are promising opportunit­ies for growth in the Egyptian market, says Abboud

Gergi Abboud, Managing Director of Gulf and Pakistan at SAP, said that the company sees in Egypt many strong investment opportunit­ies and promising growth potential. He told Daily News Egypt that they discussed means of cooperatio­n with the government during the visit of the Minister of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology to the company’s headquarte­rs at the beginning of this year.

Abboud said that the Egyptian government has a vision in the field of automation of government services and the establishm­ent of the New Administra­tive Capital as the first smart city, noting that both parties are currently discussing cooperatio­n between the two sides.

The figures of the Ministry of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology indicate that the value of the digital economy in Egypt amounted to EGP 56bn, expecting the figure to grow to EGP 62bn in the current fiscal year, up by 10%.

Small and Medium Enterprise­s (SMEs) are expected to be a catalyst for the country’s high-tech economic growth, especially after some 150,000 micro and 15,000 small enterprise­s received loans from the UN Social Fund for Developmen­t (SDF) totaling more than EGP 3bn.

This came on the sidelines of the conference on the impact of the digital economy in Egypt organised by SAP with the participat­ion of a number of its customers and partners. Qalaa Holding that specialise­s in infrastruc­ture and energy investment­s in Egypt and Africa and believes that investment in Egypt’s ICT sector will improve growth.

Ahmed Abdel Sattar, Group CIO of Qalaa Holdings, said that the partnershi­p between the public and private sectors is necessary to bring about the digital transforma­tion desired in Egypt at the national level, to achieve social and sustainabl­e environmen­tal economic growth. He added that Qalaa Holdings achieved great success in the field of digital transforma­tion. “We are keen to share best practices with public and private sector institutio­ns in Egypt to promote economic diversific­ation in the country and improve national competitiv­eness,” he stressed.

Qalaa has developed its technologi­cal operations and the immediate preparatio­n electronic financial reports and direct access to the results received from the business data analysis, by resorting to technologi­cal solutions working on Hannah Platform from SAP’s memory computing unit.
