- By Sarah El-Sheikh

The head of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), Hazem Fahmy, said that the agency has an initiative to strongly return to Africa and cooperate with African markets, during his speech in a conference on Monday.

This came during a conference held at the Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters to review the work of the agency and outcomes of the projects that have been implemented throughout the past three years.

In his speech, Fahmy said the agency played an important role in training African figures, as it arranged 230 courses with participation of 6,877 trainees in the fields of security, renewable energy, fiber optics, civil aviation, combating corruption, fish farming, maritime navigation, media, and other disciplines that meet the requirements of supporting development in Africa, in cooperation with a number of Egyptian authorities, including the ministries of civil aviation and military production.

He also added that the agency has executed with Africa a number of courses in the field of fighting terrorism, referring that there are countries that want to establish agencies inspired with Egypt’s vision to counter terrorism.

“Cairo has received several requests to establish and equip anti-terrorism institutions in the African continent, and the impression of trainees in our programmes was positive, as they saw that Egypt has a secretariat in the transfer of experience and knowledge,’’ Fahmy said.

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi announced the establishment of the EAPD during his visit to the African Union in June 2014, with the aim of developing African countries.

The strategy of the agency includes promoting African cooperation as a solidarity with developing countries, while ensuring not interfering in internal affairs and maintaining mutual benefit, as well as supporting the efforts of these countries to implement the 2063 A Sustainable Developmental agreed upon by the continent’s leaders at the UN Summit.
