26% of FDI for Arab world goes to Egypt

Egypt re­ceived 26% of the for­eign di­rect in­vest­ment (FDI) in­flows to Arab coun­tries in 2016,worth $8.1bn, com­pared to $6.9bn in 2015, ac­cord­ing to the Arab In­vest­ment and Ex­port Credit Guar­an­tee Cor­po­ra­tion re­port 2017.

The re­port said that the to­tal FDI in­flows to the Arab world amounted to $30.8bn in 2016, com­pared to $24.6bn in 2015.

The cor­po­ra­tion added that the ex­ist­ing FDIs in Egypt in 2016 rep­re­sent 12.3% of the FDIs ex­ist­ing in the Arab world, amount­ing to $102.3bn com­pared $94.3bn in 2015.

Mean­while, Egypt’s FDIs ex­ist­ing in other coun­tries are 2% of the cur­rent Arab FDIs abroad. Egypt’s ex­ist­ing FDIs to the world amounted to $7.2bn in 2016, com­pared to $7bn in 2015.

Saudi Ara­bia came in first place in ex­ist­ing FDIs in 2016 by 27.8%, fol­lowed by the UAE with 14%.

Egypt came in third place af­ter the United Arab Emi­rates (UAE), as the lat­ter re­ceived about 29% of FDIs to the Arab world.

The amount of FDIs in the UAE in 2016 amounted to $8.9bn, com­pared to $8.7bn in 2015.

Mean­while, Egypt’s FDIs to the world rep­re­sents 0.7% of the FDIs from the Arab world, which amounted to $207m in 2016, com­pared to $182m in 2015.

The UAE came in first place in pump­ing FDIs to the world by 53.7%, es­ti­mated at $15.7bn in 2016, com­pared to $16.7bn in 2015.

Saudi Ara­bia came in sec­ond place in pump­ing FDIs to the world by 28.6%, reg­is­ter­ing $8.3bn in 2016, com­pared to $5.4bn in 2015.

Arab FDIs to the world amounted to $29.3bn in 2016, while it recorded $34.5bn in 2015, ac­cord­ing to the cor­po­ra­tion.
