Bilateral ties reach highest level after Al-Bashir visit: Sudanese consul to Egypt

Egyptian, Sudanese leaders agreed to boost common interests of both countries

The Sudanese general consul to Egypt,Abdul Hameed El-Beshry,said Tuesday that Egyptian-Sudanese relations are witnessing their highest level of developmen­t and stability. He also added that the visit of Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir to Egypt opened broad horizons for cooperatio­n between the two countries.

According to his statement, El-Beshry discussed the situation of Sudanese expatriate­s with Karar Tohamy, secretary general of the Authority of Sudanese Expatriate­s Affairs, in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

They also discussed regulating the situation of the Sudanese community in Egypt, particular­ly with regard to smart passports, as well as birth certificat­es and marriage and divorce documents.

El-Beshry added that the Egyptian Consulate in Khartoum issues six-month entry visas for Sudanese citizens. For its part, the Sudanese Consulate in Cairo issues six-month entry visas for Egyptians travelling to Khartoum.Also, Egyptian authoritie­s exempted Sudanese citizens from paying the arrears of their stay in Egypt, making Sudanese persons owe only one year of arrears.

Lately, Egyptian-Sudanese relations have been witnessing a rapprochem­ent after weeks of troubled relations over several issues, including the Halayeb and Shalateen triangle and Sudan allegedly hosting members of the banned Muslim Brotherhoo­d organisati­on, in addition to the media spat following Sudan’s allowance ofTurkey to develop Swaken Island in the Red Sea.

On Monday, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received his Sudanese counterpar­t Al-Bashir in Cairo.The two leaders agreed to boost the common interests of both countries with respect to the internal circumstan­ces of the two countries. Al-Bashir said, during the press conference following the meeting, that there is political will to solve any problem that may arise between the two countries.
