Egy Tree invests EGP 20m to increase agricultural area
Egy Tree Agricultural Products Company aims to double its citrus and grapes exports this year and expand some other crops, such as pepper and lettuce.
The Chairperson of Egy Tree, Atef El Deeb, estimated the company’s exports last year to be 2,500 tonnes. The amount is aimed to increase to 5,000 tonnes of citrus fruits and 1,000 tonnes of grapes, in addition to expanding pepper and lettuce exports.
He added that his company will work to increase storage and freezing areas to 2,000 litres compared to 1,000 litres last year, with investments of EGP 5m, in addition to 50 new feddan with EGP 20m investments.
The company is currently exporting to many markets in Europe, including Poland, England and Holland.
Furthermore, El Deeb pointed out that the company prefers to deal with European countries more than it does Arab countries given their commitment, unlike Arab countries where there is work by commission, which means a higher risk.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of raising awareness among exporters on some guidance issues such as pesticide residues, their dangers, and how to deal with them.
The Ministry of Agriculture’s deci sion to codify farms that export their products is a good step that greatly con tributes to protecting the reputation of Egyptian products, emphasised the company’s chairperson.
In addition, El Deeb highlighted the importance of giving attention to, and developing, the transportation and storage systems in order to limit wasted amounts and increase quality, in cooperation with the state and the private sector.
Plus, he also remarked that the past few years have seen a decline in the support toward company exhibitions which affected the participation of average companies and limited their abilities to enter new markets and deal with new clients.
