Italgen requests renewal of energy producing license in Egypt for 5th year
Company chooses Sarie-Eldin to study legal situation after EgyptERA refuses request
Italy’s Italgen has requested renewal of its license for production and sale of electricity for a fifth year, but the Egyptian Electric Utility & Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) because the company did not implement its contracted wind farm.
High-level sources told Daily News Egypt that the Italian company has been granted a temporary license to be renewed every year, and it has been renewed more than once and yet no projects were implemented by the Italian company to generate electricity from wind, according to the IPP system, in order to provide electricity to factories in Egypt, including Suez Cement Factory.
The sources added that the company was supposed to establish a transformer plant with a power rating of 200kV to transfer power to be produced from the wind station that has not been established yet, therefore the ERA refused the request of the company to renew its licenses.
The sources pointed out that the Italian company informed officials that it has spent a lot of money in conducting several studies on the project.
The sources pointed out that Italgen has chosen the Sarie-Eldin & Partners law firm to study the legal aspects of the situation with legal advisers of EgyptERA to solve this problem and renew the license to produce and sell electric power.
The sources praised the distinguished relations between Italian companies and EgyptERA, which do not mind granting such licenses for foreign companies providing that it does not contradict the law.
