Climbing deeper into the abyss

- Youssef Sidhom

I carry on today with the cry for help that I let out in my last editorial, warning against the effects of what reaches us from the so called ‘developed world’. We frequently find ourselves at the receiving end of a western culture that drowns us in delusional fallacies which, despite their glamorous slogan wrapping, are in effect advocating for diabolic purposes that shake our ethical mainstays and destroy our moral foundations.

Who could have believed that homosexuality would gain legitimacy and legality under the pretext of “freedom”, “equality”, and “selfdetermination”? And who could have in their wildest dreams imagined that we would see a world that destroys family bonds that have since time immemorial been the very foundations upon which a community is built? Even worse, who could have thought that rather than being ashamed of shattering these bonds, the world would be bragging and boasting of having done so?

In previous editorials, I referred to the stigma of “homosexuality” that has overtaken the western world, and according to which same-sex relations were endorsed, same-sex marriages made legal, and samesex couples allowed to form families and adopt children who carry their name. Homosexuals have the same rights and duties as all members of the community; they fill various posts and engage in politics and military service.

As to sex change, we used to hear in the past about rare cases in which medical intervention would be needed to change a person’s sex through medical treatments and surgery, but this was done when imbalances or abnormalities were diagnosed, and correction was warranted. It was never performed on personal whim, but in compliance with body hormones, genes, and health. In most cases— rare as they were—those who underwent transgender surgeries needed psychological support and help to equip them to deal with the mental and social aftermath and challenges of the change.

So why do we today find ourselves in the clutches of a culture that promotes homosexuality, and glamourises transgender transition and trans persons? It is no longer about genetic or hormonal abnormalities; it is just about the desire of a boy to become a girl or vice versa. Scientific and medical progress has come up with diabolical transgender care that includes therapy, puberty-blocking drugs, hormone treatments, and even surgical operations to alter genitalia, breasts, and testicles.

Let me point out that when I mention the desire of a boy or a girl in that regard, there are no wise persons who carry the responsibility of checking and offering advice before a decision to allow or stop a gender transition is taken. Under the claim of “personal freedom”, the entire life-changing decision is left to the whim of mere children. Not only that, but the children are even safeguarded against any opposition from their parents. This is the essence of the testimony I talk of today, given by an American middle-aged woman who lives in the State of Washington and who was rallying residents to oppose the signature of Bill 5599 which was then to be signed by Governor Jay Inslee, allowing “host homes to house youth without parental permission if a youth is seeking or receiving protected health care services.” By “protected health care services” the bill refers to “gender-affirming treatment and reproductive health care services that are lawful in the State of Washington.” Governor Inslee signed the Bill earlier in May 2023.

On video, the woman pleaded with people to beware of this “wicked, evil” bill targeting their children who have been taught in school that they can readily alter their gender identity from male to female or vice versa. “If your kids tell you that, and you object,” the woman in the video said, “the State of Washington can legally take your child from you, and assist that child.”

The shocked American woman proceeded that while this “demonic” bill may be issued, giving 13-yearolds the right to decide about their gender alteration without their parents’ consent, the laws of the State of Washington do not allow them to drive before the age of 16, or smoke or join the army before 18, because these are the age brackets that ensure sufficient maturity to make such decisions. So how could the age of making the life changing decision of altering one’s gender be placed at a mere 13? And how could the law allow children to make such decisions on their own, given that its repercussions would follow them for life?
