Man arrested for assaulting girlfriend with sjambok
IN a disturbing case that has brought attention to the issue of domestic violence, Ndumiso Dlamini (37), a resident of the Siphocosini area, was charged with allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a sjambok.
Dlamini appeared before the Mbabane Magistrate’s Court to face charges under section 77(1) (a) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act 15/2018.
The incident took place on March 23, 2024, in Siphocosini. The court heard that Dlamini allegedly attacked his girlfriend, Nokuthula Maseko, with a sjambok several times all over the body.
The gravity of the accusations has led to Dlamini being remanded in custody until March 28, 2024, pending an appearance before the Principal Magistrate.
Meanwhile, in a separate but equally distressing case, 27-year-old Samkelo Dlamini from Qobonga found himself in legal trouble and appeared before Mbabane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, Ntombilayise Dlamini, at the Mbabane Engen Filling Station on March 24, 2024.
The court was told that Dlamini, in a fit of rage, repeatedly struck his eight-month pregnant partner, causing her physical and emotional harm. Dlamini was charged under the same section of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act 15/2018 as Dube.
During the court proceedings, Dlamini pleaded for leniency, citing financial struggles and the impending birth of their child as reasons for his actions. The court, after careful consideration, handed down a sentence of 5 years in prison or a fine of E5 000.
However, showing some compassion, the court decided to suspend two years of the sentence or E2 000 under the condition that Dlamini refrain from committing any similar offences in the future.
