“A 70 year old woman of Ngodini at Mangcongco was burnt to death by a fire while inside a house,” Mnguni confirmed through a statement.

Tragedies of fire like this are very common in the country especially where a candle is still being used as a source of light.

Most recently an incident occurred just after 4:30pm at Mbhuleni, Matsapha. The fire was started by a candle which was left unattended next to a bed, on which two minors aged four and 19 months were asleep. Electricity had blacked out on the fateful night. According to sources, the mother, who is a Mozambican national was not home when the incident occurred as she was selling her wares at a spaza situated within the same homestead, which has a block of one-room flats. Further, the sources disclosed to the Media that it was suspected that the minors placed the candle next to the bed and forgot to put it out after the lights had been on again.

That is when the fire engulfed the room and burnt them.
