-

The taekwondo national team has arrived safely in Ghana for the 2023 African Games currently taking place in Accra.

The team landed in Accra on Friday afternoon after leaving the country on Thursday where they connected the flight to Ghana at the OR Tambo International Airport.

Team Eswatini chef de mission Zakhele Zulu confirmed the news when giving updates on the team.

“We have welcomed the Taekwondo team in Ghana ahead of their competition kick-off on March 18. We wish the team the best of luck during their competitions,” he said.

The Taekwondo team will compete in two categories of the African Games which are poomsae and general during the 15-day continental spectacle.

Some of the Taekwondo squad members include Saneliso Masuku, Wandile Maziya, Carllota Munave and Sivunolwesihle Dlamini.

The quartet will be under the guidance of Mancoba Motsa during the games.

Meanwhile, the veteran duo of Sizwe Mabuza and Nkosinathi Mthembu will compete in the newly introduced poomsae category.

Team Eswatini’s trip to the West African country is funded to the tune of E1.6 million by the Government (E1.1 million) and the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Association (EOCGA) by E600 000.
