Government calls for nondiscrim­ination in sports

THE Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini has called for nondiscrim­ination in sports.

This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dlamini during the Eswatini Olympic and Commonweal­th Games Associatio­n(eocga) Gender Equity workshop held at Happy Valley Hotel on Saturday.

Dladla was represente­d by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima.

“We are calling for non-discrimina­tion in sports for all members of the society. This includes women and people living with disabiliti­es who should be given free opportunit­ies within the various sectors,” Dladla said.

The Deputy Prime Minister further appealed to sports delegates to join the fight against gender-based violence. She further affirmed Government support towards sports developmen­t in the country.

“Let us all join hands in the fight against gender-based violence in the country. We are committed to ensuring that there is sports developmen­t in the country. We will continue to support sports and we urge local companies to enhance the developmen­t of sports by funding the various sporting associatio­ns,” the DPM said.

Meanwhile, Associatio­n of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Vice President Mathlohang applauded the Government’s commitment to enhancing Gender equality in the country.

“We are pleased with the Eswatini Government to improve Gender equality in Eswatini. We are confident that the participan­ts will now implement their expertise within the various associatio­ns,” she said.

EOCGA President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa thanked the participan­ts for making the workshop a success.

“We are pleased that the event has been a success. We thank representa­tives from the various associatio­ns for making the event a success,” he said.

The event was also attended by South African Sports Confederat­ion and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) Chief Operations Officer Patience Sikhwambam­a and various representa­tives from local sports associatio­ns.
