HEARTBREAK!

The International Boxing Association (IBA) judges have broken the hearts of Emaswati in the ongoing Nelson Mandela Cup.

This follows the disqualification of local boxer Andiswa Sibandze in the tournament despite her victory against Sanele Songcwayi of South Africa.

Sibandze had been early declared as the winner of the Referees Stopped Contest during round two on Friday in the Mandela African Cup currently played in Durban at the International Convention Centre.

The result was overturned after the

South National African Boxing (SANABO) protested with the Governing mother body (IBA) on Friday evening.

Sibandze had secured Eswatini’s first win in the new continental tournament following the exit of six boxers in the quarterfinal stage such as Lucia Groening, Khaya Shongwe, Nkosinathi Dvuba, Mitto Latches, Phelindaba Gamedze and Mayibongwe Mdluli.

Eswatini Boxing Association President Webster Lukhele lamented the official’s decision.

“We are disappointed by the judge’s decision after our boxer’s victory was reversed. We will now have to move on as a country and commend the resilience of our boxer,” he said.

Female Boxer Temalangeni Dlamini will be competing in the women’s finals on Sunday,” he said.
