Athletics power struggle stalled by CAA
THE ongoing Athletics Eswatini power struggle has been stalled by the much-awaited arrival of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) delegation in the country.
The continent’s body aims to bring harmony in the squabbles between President Zakhele Dlamini’s led executive committee and clubs. Zakhele has not been in bed with the club who have been calling for his resignation through their two representatives Gideon Mthembu and Eward Ndlangamandla.
The battle has been spearheaded by the shocking resignation of three board members Dr Zabenguni Mkhatshwa, Sipho Vilakati and Sanele Manana.
The exodus was added by the unceremonious exit of additional members and Public Relations Officer(pro) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini. The clubs further hauled the executive committee to court where they were granted a court order ordering the incumbent executive committee to convey a special meeting that would enhance the election of a new interim committee.
The clubs are also challenging the fiveyear suspension of Manzini Athletics club Chairman and national team coach Muzi Mabuza who is currently on ice following a disciplinary hearing that was instituted by the current executive committee.
Athletics Association Chief Operations Officer (COO) Thoba Mazibuko said they are expecting the delegation from the African body to arrive in the country.
“We are now waiting for the CAA delegation to arrive in the country where we will meet clubs over their concerns,” he said
