Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”

Here’s to another week Perseverance is key with we do my family.

First and foremost I would like to thank the Almighty God for the precious gift of life, love, family and health. This is something we should never take for granted.

Now that we have given gratitude we can safely move to the next item on the agenda.

This week was very eventful to say the least, I wrote an article about the Arts and Culture Epic Gig Festival, which was at the Malkerns Country Club on June 24, 2022, it was a truly amazing experience, to see pupils from different primary schools showing their well rehearsed musical and dance entertainment skills, more so, the platform given to them by the National Council of Arts and Culture and the Epic Gig Episode III Festival team. I was really dazzled.

I also got the pleasure to write about the Imokodvo Movement which is an organisation founded by the most prominent female DJs based in Eswatini like, DJ Lady Cream and DJ Lady Zee. This inspiring movement focuses on building and growing females in the entertainment industry bassed in the kingdom. I got the pleasure of writing an article about The Golden Circle: A Day At The Races which is an event similar to the Durban July but in Eswatini. It is honestly amazing to see the progress that has been made within our entertainment industry to be able to experience an event of this magnitude in the Kingdom. Last but not least I got to spend time with the Eswatini Motor Sport Weekend team who will be having Big Nuz, Master KG and Makhadzi performing at their event. The motor sport weekend event will also entail numerous other activities like camping , spinning and drag racing. Bringing people from different surrounding countries to experience this culture.

Stay tuned to our weekly stories published by the entertainment department . You are sure to find some inspiration and growth.

In this weeks Gcwala readers should expect a variety of entertainment. We have the multi-talented CheiStar who is a musician, MC and business mogul among other things. We also feature a male rapper by the name Ohtomn Sally who is an up coming rapper from Eswatini. We also have another cool feature with DJ Lady Zee, but I will leave it up to you to find out what she has to say. We then have some abstract artist LoxArt showing his artistic talent on fabric. Lastly, we have the second episode of the XLR Plug with Nolo Dee, find out who the guest is. We basically have a weekend of greatness lined up for you including the fun filled games to keep the children busy. We end this week’s Gcwala with the celebration of a young lady’s birthday party.

If you think this week did it for you, look out for next weeks issue of Gcwala and see what we will be having in store for you.

Till then. Love and Light to you all. Stay blessed and do not forget to pray. Peace! I am out !

To witness divine intervention and nurture the resilience inside of me. This is why paving it forward and starting ‘The Stars are us’ movement where I mentor young girls is at the centre of purpose for me. To be the change I want to see in the world. To give young people a platform to feel, to heal and to become.”

– UNKNOWN Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Cheilla Merissa Vovos. Allow me to share a little bit about my story, I live on the mantra: I cannot change my background but watch me leave a legacy. This has been me from the age of six. My entire being is a gift and I can recall a few near death situations growing up, hence my faith at a tender age. I know what it is like to be rejected by your father at the age of three and have him remember you only when he needed a kidney because both his kidneys had failed. I know what it is like to line up for the OVC fund, I know what it feels like to lose your everything. I lost my grandmother last year, who was my mother, my father, my best friend and doctor. This is but one of the many adversities I have faced but from a young age I refused to settle for the status quo, I decided I would be the best child in my grade. I chose to fight for my space, to create a table, to be the best I can be. I use my story to empower young people, to inspire them to take up their truth and run with it claiming their destiny. The past no longer hurts me, on my healing journey I have come to realise that it is what makes me who I am. Those struggles allowed me the gift of angels.

I honestly believe that success in this industry or any industry for that matter is 20 per cent talent and 80 per cent strategy, planning, execution, hard work and consistency. I was an MC for over 10 years, living with my musical passion in all corners of my house until 2018 when I decided to get into studio. I have learnt how to structure a song, the need for brand positioning and how to get my music out there. My energy truly is God given and that gives me the power to kill it during performances

What separates you from other artists?

IWhat is your main goal with your music career?

My main goal is to inspire and to give hope with my music. To be an energy of healing and resilience. In addition it is for me personally, to get to the Grammy stage and receive an award.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?
