Committee restoring police image

- BY JOSEPH ZULU

PIGG’S PEAK – It is not a secret that at some point, there were some misunderstandings within the police service but this could now be a thing of the past.

The Deputy National Commissioner. Mandla Mdluli, who spoke on behalf of the National Commissioner (NATCOM) of the Police William Tsitsibala Dlamini, conceded that there was a time when things did not seem to go well among police officers. He said this resulted in some of the members of the public losing trust in the service.

Mdluli spoke during the funeral service of the late Constable Zinhle

Mavuso, who was gunned down by unknown people on June 25, 2022. She was shot after being duped into believing there was an emergency which she rushed to respond to, with another police officer who was also shot but survived.

Mavuso was laid to rest around Timphisini on Saturday morning.

Trust

Mdluli stated that he was now pleased with officers and he had noticed that the situation was getting back to normal. He stated that this was evident in that even the people were gaining trust in the police service.

“Keep it up,” stated Mdluli. He assured the police officers who had also attended the funeral that he would convey the same message to the national commissioner.

The deputy NATCOM said there was a committee that had been tasked to ensure that the image of the police service was restored. He added that with the improved attitude within the police service, even the members of the public now felt safe.

Mdluli said the untimely death of Mavuso was a big loss to the country, especially that she was a young person who still had a lot to live for. However, he noted that she died as a hero.

“This is what she had sworn to live by,” he noted.
