MBABANE – Two accidents along the same road in a space of 20 minutes.

This was the scenario at Malagwane Hill yesterday, when an oil spillage was suspected to be the cause of two accidents that happened about 500 metres apart.

When reached for confirmation regarding the accidents, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati could only confirm that the accidents did occur along the same route.

Upon arrival at the scene of the first accident, this publication found the kombi involved being doused by personnel from the Eswatini National Fire and Emergency Services as smoke emanated from the engine, allegedly due to strain when the driver was applying brakes to the vehicle.

A gold Toyota Corolla, a blue Siyaya kombi and a white VW Golf TSI were involved in the first accident, where it was gathered that the driver of the Golf had to be rushed to the hospital due to minor injuries.

The second accident happened about 500 metres apart from the first accident, however, it was gathered that the Mistubushi Colt two-seater was the first car to overturn due to the alleged oil spillage before the three other vehicles had an accident.

When gathering further information on the accident, near the bridge crossing to Mvutjini, a Shacman truck with a Mozambique registration plate was found parked with oil spilling underneath.

The truck was found idle without any passenger or driver in sight, however, the oil spilt on the road was clearly fresh and evidently from the truck.

However, there was no confirmation on whether this could be the possible cause of the two accidents, except what was gathered from the witnesses found at the accident scenes.
