DWALENI – Having various streams of revenue upon retirement is one of the lessons that Dr. Phil Mnisi instilled to his staff.

Dr. Mnisi has been appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) after serving for six years as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Eswatini Sugar Association (ESA).

During his farewell function held at Mdolomba Eden Indigenous Resort last Friday, employees showered Dr. Mnisi with accolades for his visionary leadership as well as planting positive attributes in them.

Speaking on behalf of the employees, Michael Dlamini said they were content with the leadership style that was displayed by Dr. Mnisi, who had an open door policy and was always ready to share some wise words with them. Dlamini said Dr. Mnisi’s leadership qualities were even noted by Their Majesties who appointed him to serve in various boards.

He described Dr. Mnisi as a rare species and versatile leader. “We learnt a lot of amazing things from you Dr. Mnisi. For instance, you were a people’s person and always welcoming to everyone. Despite your position in the organisation, you were always humble, which made it easier for staff to relate with you. We implore you to continue with this attribute at the CBE,” he said.

Dr. Mnisi’s versatility was another attribute that the staff pointed out, noting that he was the CEO, pastor, marriage officer, passionate farmer, landlord and motivational speaker. “During the first year at ESA, you received the Best CEO award, you also play golf and were appointed into various boards. You instilled in us the culture of planning for our retirement through having various streams of revenue and you were quite exemplary in this regard,” Dlamini added.

He said the need to up-skill themselves was also cemented by the former CEO, who also attained his PhD while at ESA. Dlamini also noted that Dr. Mnisi joined the sugar industry when some of the employees were of the view that its future was bleak, but he managed to change that perception.

In jest, he said Dr. Mnisi prayed for rain when he took over the reins at ESA, and the rains did come, something which possibly had to do with his surname, much to the laughter of those in attendance. Dlamini, on behalf of the staff, wished Dr. Mnisi well and challenged him to continue leading with virtue.
