Its starts with making a beat which according to the type of song you make, is dependent on the BPM (Beats Per Minute) better known as the tempo measured by the BPM. It is also considered as defining your vibe and energy which you would then carry throughout the song. The second step is creating a bassline which involves patterns of low-pitched notes. They often serve to reinforce a song’s chords, while also using interesting rhythmic patterns that relate to or contrast with the drums.

The third step is to add the drums. Step four is to add melodic elements that you want to include. Step five to build on your beat and start filling the gaps.

Step six you expand your beat. Then lastly you mix and master

your beat. This publication reached out to a few local music producers and they gave us the following insight;

From Point Blank Group, Welile Mthethwa also known as Wigo said: “Firstly I need to know why I am doing the song and what I am trying to achieve with the song. It is important to grasp that concept before I begin the production.”

He continued to say: “I also get that through interviewing the artist I will be working with to gain their vision.”

Wigo gave aspiring producers some words of wisdom and said: “Its creative driven so number one does not rely on it to make a living because you will be jaded and you will start doing it for the wrong reasons. Have something else on the side that you do for putting food on the table,” said the producer.

Hani G from Hani G Studios was also reached for comment pertaining his process for production and he said “It is important to understand the mood and vibe if you are happy it’s often higher paced music, and if you are sad it will normally be opposite.”

Mduduzi Matsenjwa aka Ziyawa, another producer, when reached for comment said, “When creating a beat the outcome always depends on your mood. When in a happy mood the song will be an exciting vibe. Also
