PIGG’S PEAK – Finally, it was payday for security guards at the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital on Tuesday.

Some of the security guards are said to have boycotted their workstations following that they had not been paid.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the security guards said they should have been paid on June 20, 2022.

They also said others normally got their money slightly later but that this month, they had not received their wages on time.

The Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital is protected by Intelligence Security.

Revealed

*Jomo, one of the security guards who said he had been paid, revealed that nearly everyone got paid on Tuesday.

“If they did not receive the money, it could be because they had been absent,” said Jomo.

Jomo, however, expressed concern that the security guards had lost the zeal to work as they were not sure that they would ever get paid by end of July.

He said this was the reason some decided not to report for work.

He further stated that some of the guards had been arriving for work without having eaten anything and hoped that they would ask for food normally given to patients.

He said this was the only way they could make it to work.

Yesterday, some of the security guards confirmed that they had been paid their wages.

They also admitted that money lenders were already demanding that they pay back the money they had borrowed while some were forced to vacate their rooms because they had failed to pay rent.

Problem

The company’s director could not be reached yesterday, however, on June 24, 2022, she indicated that there was a problem as it was true that the employees had not been paid.

She revealed that the company was making means to ensure that they were paid.

Further, she also revealed that the company had not been paid for its services by government and that this also contributed.

Overdraft

The director further revealed that the company had acquired an overdraft from a bank so that they could pay the employees, but that even this got depleted. However, yesterday, the employees revealed that they had now been paid.

An attempt was also made to reach the Director of Health Services, Dr Vusi Magagula and later the Health Minister Lizzie Nkosi but they could not be reached for comment on the matter.
