Take chance, value our artists

-

Madam,

$s an economy we are not at all placing much value in the arts industry. /ocal talent has grown and developed over the years and artists have shown that they are ready to compete on the international stage. +owever, as a nation we do not seem to value them most people will always want to negotiate the talent and not even pay at all.

$lso, we do not have proMects that seem to em power the arts and that is an income stream lost, tax revenue lost and livelihoods lost. We need to do more as a country to invest on improving the arts. , would liNe to call upon the 6tate owned media to give more time for local content, a small per cent local content can go a long way in opening marNets for them. We also need government to maNe a strategic investment to invigorate the arts we need investments that will help the creative space penetrate international marNets.

2ne notes with sadness how government has taNen the initiative to invest in creative multimedia at /imNoNwing 8niversity of &reative 7echnology and all the output from this hefty investment is ei ther mal employed or underemployed. We need to open up the media space and give more platforms to the youth and those in the arts to explore and entertain the nation. We need to open up spaces for our people to explore the diverse opportunities that are abundant in our economy.

DIVERSIFY

Growing the economy requires that we find new ways of doing things we need to move from the ways of old and diversify into new territory. 7o attain this we need to accept that this is now the information age, it’s the time for the millennials, let us taNe a leaf and learn from them and we might Must stumble into new sources of growth. We need to learn how to embrace information technology and strategically invest in the tech sector so that it can start to drive growth. Globally a lot of growth is coming through the tech sector let (swatini not be left behind. ,t is the duty of government to create a fair environment for all ema6wati to thrive, and let us taNe a chance on the youth and value our artists.
