Strategy is always key

-

SUNDAY greetings! As Team Eswatini continues with preparations for the Commonwealth Games, which will be staged in Birmingham, in the United Kingdom, our National Sports Associations will be empowered next weekend.

We cannot forget to mention Team Eswatini for obvious reasons. They will be carrying the flag and that is enough to get us all excited. Let us support our athletes in whatever way possible. We digress. Today, we are talking strategy. The Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) will be hosting our associations at the Esibayeni Lodge next week for a strategic meeting. Needless to say, if one wants to be successful in whatever he or she wants to undertake, strategy is key. This is exactly what the sporting fraternity will be doing.

Our sports associations know how crucial the meeting is and we expect them in numbers for the meeting to be successful. Without their input, the meeting will not be a success. It is time we put our sports where they belong. This can only be possible with hard work, unity and cooperation. That is why we are expecting every association to be part of the meeting. Please do attend in numbers and you will be glad you did, as we shape up our sports.

We have watched albeit apprehensively our beloved Sihlangu hold their own in a foreign land in the ongoing COSAFA Cup being played in Durban, South Africa.

After an impressive opening win against Mauritius, who were thrashed 3-0, Sihlangu had to dig deeper to salvage a draw against Malawi in the group’s second game. The boys are still very much in it after that last minute equaliser against higher ranked Malawi, to force a share of the spoils. Sihlangu needs to beat current group toppers, Lesotho, in the last game to go through to the quarterfinals of the annual regional showpiece. Should the squad make it, as we anticipate, they will then meet Senegal. The nation is united in hope and prayer. We have complete faith in Dominic Kunene’s charges. They can do it and go one better than their third place finish from their last outing in this tournament.

Podium finishes have been the buzzword in our sports of late. It’s what we want to see from our national teams, not just Sihlangu. As a country, we have taken a clear stance on international participation. If it’s not development, then it should be effective participation, which will yield the positive results. We are behind our boys all the way, as they again attempt to hoist our flag.

We are an organisation that prides itself in being one that moves with the times. We always encourage our National Sports Associations to do the same. We cannot be stuck in the past. Our online media platforms are up and running. The sports fraternity should make use of them. We also encourage the private and corporate sectors to approach us for any potential partnership. We have always said we are here for our people.

After fruitful talks, we at the ESRC are glad that soon we will be launching a brand new partnership. Partnerships are the new normal and we encourage associations to enter into these agreements for the improvement of the sport.

We remain available to clarify any issues affecting our people.

Until next week, sport for all, sports for life!
