MANZINI - A kombi driver went into retaliation rage after he was allegedly called by the husband of his girlfriend, by setting the man’s home and a neighbour’s car on fire.

The kombi driver allegedly set alight the home of his girlfriend’s husband together with his cousin and further burnt a neighbour’s car at Fairview last Monday. They both appeared for a confession last Friday at the Manzini Magistrates Court.

According to the cousin, the kombi driver was in a relationship with a married woman and the husband had discovered their affair.

Upon the discovery, he told the court that the married man got hold of the public transport worker’s numbers and called him, insulting him for allegedly being in an affair with his wife.

To this, he elaborated that the kombi driver wanted to kill himself by ingesting a deadly pesticide. However, he reportedly decided against it and later called his cousin. He said he (kombi driver) was on a drinking spree in town and informed him (cousin) that he wanted to revenge on the married woman’s husband. He said they bought 10 bottles of alcoholic beverages, which they enjoyed before taking off. He said they both went to a local filling station where the kombi driver fuelled the vehicle they were travelling in.

Petrol

The cousin further narrated that the kombi driver alighted with a container and bought petrol worth E100. He said they then took off and headed to Fairview, where they arrived at the man’s home. The cousin narrated that they opened a hole on the fence with pliers and entered the homestead. He added that the kombi driver also had a small enema, which he used to draw the petrol from the container and sprinkled door of the house.

He said his cousin sprinkled the petrol on the door and some parts of the house. He (kombi driver) then reportedly ordered him (cousin) to set fire, to which he did.

On the other hand, the kombi driver confessed that he was in a gloomy mood at the bus rank, when his cousin approached him and said he did not like to see him in that state. He claimed that the cousin told him to go and burn the husband’s home. The public transport worker further mentioned that they went to buy petrol and used the enema to sprinkle the door and then set it on fire.

He said he sprinkled the door with the petrol, set it alight, and they both fled. He also recalled that they saw a neighbour’s car and also doused it with the petrol from the container, and set it alight. He said this was because the neighbour meddled in his affairs. it on the
