MBABANE – A burning candle has left three children of Sithobela Constituency at KaGucuka homeless.

They lost everything after a house they were sleeping in was reduced to ashes on Thursday night around 11:59pm. It was said the fire was caused by a candle, after one of the children who is a Form II pupil fell asleep while studying.

In an interview with Lucky Dlamini, the head of the family, he said the incident happened at night, but the children escaped unhurt. “Luckily, the eldest child woke up and was able to wake her siblings up,” Dlamini said.

Destroyed

He said everything the children owned was destroyed in the fire. “Even school books were burnt on the night of the incident and I don’t know what to do,” he added. Dlamini further said he went to the school where the children are enrolled to report what had happened but unfortunately, the head teacher was not present. Dlamini then pleaded with members of the public to assist the children with clothes and other items.

In an interview with Sikelela Gamedze, Sithobela Bucopho,

“I am still going to go there to assess the damage, and then engage the relevant stakeholders,” Gamedze said. (Umphakatsi)

The bucopho said on such unfortunate incidents, they usually went and assessed the damage, took pictures and sent them to the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). “They will then be assisted with what they need,” he said.
