Nedbank grateful for Sibebe Challenge revival
MBABANE – Nedbank Eswatini has expressed its gratitude to Rotary Club of Mbabane-Mbuluzi for reviving the Sibebe Survivor Challenge.
The bank’s Managing Director (MD), Fikile Nkosi, who spoke through the institution’s Head of Legal, Mpendulo Shongwe, noted that with the COVID-19 pandemic having stalled most activities, not only in Eswatini but worldwide in the past two years, they were glad to finally be able to go out and interact socially.
“We have definitely missed hiking up the monumental Sibebe Rock.
Proud
“As Nedbank, we are proud to be in partnership with an organisation that has its foundations on values that we are equally passionate about - giving back to the community. Drawing from our purpose of being ‘Money Experts Who Do Good’, Nedbank has constantly been motivated by the social and economic impact this initiative has had on beneficiaries, as the proceeds from Sibebe Survivor Challenge are channeled towards assisting the underprivileged communities throughout the country, as well as certain projects within the Mbuluzi area and other communities,” she said.
She stated that where their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme as Nedbank Eswatini may be limited to reach, their partners such as the Rotary Club of Mbabane-Mbuluzi were able to fill that gap and reach out to more people in disadvantaged circumstances.
Nkosi said over the years, millions of Emalangeni from Sibebe Survivor Challenge proceeds have been utilised in supporting different causes such as orphaned and vulnerable children, hospitals, schools and projects in various communities throughout the country.
Applaud
“What a phenomenal and immeasurable achievement! We applaud the Rotary Club for such great accomplishment – we are proud to be associated with such a strong and reliable brand that always has other people’s interests at heart. As we continue to make this event bigger and better, we are shining the spotlight on our historic and monumental tourist attraction – the Sibebe Rock. In turn, we are promoting Eswatini as a tourist destination of choice – both domestically and internationally.
“We would like to particularly thank the community of Mbuluzi and the Sibebe Community Trust for supporting this initiative over the years,” she added.
The MD then announced support of E150 000 towards the initiative.
This much anticipated event in Eswatini’s annual calendar, will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
In his address, President of the Rotary Club of Mbabane-Mbuluzi, Andrew Muwonge, revealed that this year’s event will be a weekend long event with various activities lined up from Saturday, September 24, culminating to the Sibebe Survivor Challenge, where fitness enthusiasts will climb the Sibebe Rock on Sunday, September 25.
What will be different as well is that the start and finish of the challenge will be at Sibebe Resort, unlike in previous years.
The Saturday will be a hive of activity at Sibebe Resort with a family fun day setting, where there will be children’s activities, as well as adult activities.
The organising committee will provide all the details shortly.
