MBABANE- Little Academy Primary School was crowned the best primary school in the 2022 Francophon­ie (Dismoi dix mots) Competitio­n.

The event was held at the Alliance Francaise, in Mbabane yesterday afternoon. They received the Francophon­ie Award. The school received laptops to be used in the French department. The awards were handed over by Annelisa Stoffels, who is the Senior Inspector for French and Ronan Coquel, the Director ofAlliance Francaise, Eswatini.

The Little Academy Head teacher Faye Miller became emotional after she was called on stage to receive the award on behalf of her learners.

She thanked the French department for the work they were doing in the country by teaching the learners other languages.

“French department, you have made us so proud. Thank you so much for the good work you are currently doing in eSwatini. You have touched lives you never dreamt about. Please keep up the good work,” she said.

St Mark’s High School also received an Francophon­ie Award in the form of speakers and a laptop for becoming the best in three consecutiv­e years since 2019.

While announcing the IGCSE winners, the Senior Inspector for French said they were surprised by the learners’ performanc­e because they had only four months to learn, grasp, interpret, and understand the French concept before sitting for examinatio­ns. She said the exams were not shifted for another day but learners had to strive till the end. “We are surprised by the Form V learners’performanc­e who gotA* in their French exams. They performed exceptiona­lly well and we are so happy for them,” she said.

The Form V pupils who got A* in the French exams are Mbonani Siviwe and Adeleke Deborah from St Mark’s High School. Priscillia Mkhonta, the Deputy Head Teacher, said she was so happy for the children’s success.

“You have made us proud. I thank all those that support the children even during the times of COVID-19 where everything was done online,” said Mkhonta.

Stoffels further indicated that schools like the Evelyn Baring Primary, Mater Dorolosa High and St Mark’s High received a 100 per cent pass rate in the French subject. She said about 90 candidates from Baring, Mater Dolorosa (156) and St Mark’s High (202) candidates all excelled in their exams.

The names of some of the primary school winners are Siviwe Mkama and Thembela Mdluli (Evelyn Baring Primary), Basira Batel, Lerato Ndlangaman­dla, Du-point Lethu, Unathi Khumalo (St Mark’s Primary) just to name a few.
