MBABANE - A bricklayer sustained a broken leg when revenging an attack of his wife at Hlobane.

Information gathered was to the effect that Sicelo Vilakati confronted Celiwe Dlamini whom he accused of assaulting his wife in the area. The incident is said to have happened in the presence of Celiwe’s family members, resulting in them coming to her rescue.

Among Celiwe’s relatives was Musa Dlamini, who was subsequently arrested and charged with assault, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, after he assaulted Vilakati with a stone on his right leg. Appearing at the Mbabane Magistrates Court also charged with the offence, Musa pleaded guilty to the charge.

Evidence

In his evidence in chief, Vilakati told the court that he received information that Celiwe had assaulted his wife before he confronted the latter. However, he told the court that Celiwe also showed him some injuries she allegedly suffered at the hands of his wife.

Vilakati submitted that during the course of the confrontation, Musa requested Celiwe to move away so that he could finish with him. In his own words, Vilakati told the court that; “Musa watsi ku Celiwe akakhweshe atocedza ngalenja kwaba kulapho angishaya khona ngalelitjte lelivele langijuba umlente,” which loosely translated to mean; “Musa told Celiwe to move away so that he could finish me off. He then hit me with the stone which broke my leg.”

Chased

Vilakati had earlier told the court that he had chased after Musa and his brother. He alleged that the duo had interfered when he spoke to their grandfather Vusabantu, who had questioned him why he built a house in his homestead without his consent.

He told the court that he did not entertain Vusabantu, but advised him to talk to his son Sicelo who had hired him to build the house. It was Vilakati’s evidence that he ignored Vusabantu because he had a hand in the attack of his wife.
