BIRMINGHAM - Northern Ireland sprinter Leon Reid has been barred from competing at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham following a security risk assessment.

Reid was given a suspended sentence in February after being found guilty of allowing his flat to be used to produce cocaine and was ordered to do 220 hours of unpaid work.

He was one of 18 men charged with drugs and firearms offences last year, all of which he denied.

The 27-year-old won bronze in the 200m at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and reached the semifinals in the event at last year’s Tokyo Olympicoswuhliliebreaprle›senetinšgpIreelacn–de.

LONDON - Kalidou Koulibaly was yesterday preparing to take a private jet to Los Angeles to team up with Chelsea so that he could complete his medical today.

The Senegalese defender is expected to sign for the west London club for £34 million today following an eight-year spell with Italian giants Napoli.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been eager to strengthen in defence following the departures of Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona earlier this month.

Having reportedly considered moves for Manchester City centre-half Nathan Ake and Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe, the Blues are now on the brink of adding experienced 31-yearold Koulibaly to the fold.

The Senegal captain is primed to take a private jet to California and complete his Chelsea medical today, ahead of a proposed four-year deal.

Reports from Italy claim the deal will be worth in the region €6m-ayear following a successful medical.

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti told his players earlier this week that ‘Koulibaly is almost gone’ and that he would exit the club this summer, Il Corriere dello Sport have reported.
