Chabalala joins Chippa

JOHANNESBURG - Chippa United have beaten Maritzburg United to former Orlando Pirates defender Justice Chabalala’s signature. The tall centre-back had been a free agent after being released by Pirates at the end of the recent 2021-22 season having made just eight appearances in the PSL during his time with the Soweto giants. Chabalala was tipped to join Maritzburg where he would have reunited with his former coach at Bloemfontein Celtic, John Maduka having worked together between 2019 and 2021 as the team reached the 2020 Nedbank Cup final.

Derby dates revealed

JOHANNESBURG - The dates for the 2022/23 Soweto Derby fixtures between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have been confirmed by the Premier Soccer League. The first round derby between the rivals will be played on October 29, with the Buccaneers as hosts at FNB Stadium. It will be a first derby as head coaches for both coaches, Jose Riveiro and Arthur Zwane, who were appointed by the Soweto sides not so long ago. The second round derby is expected to be played on February 25, 2023, at the same venue, withAmakhosi as hosts.

Mphahlele at SuperSport

JOHANNESBURG - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has returned to his former club as he works his way towards securing another contract ahead of the start of the new season. Mphahlele’s contract was not renewed at Chiefs after six years with the club. He has now started training with SuperSport United – a club that he went through during his development years prior to moving to Moroka Swallows where he then got his break into the PSL in 2007.

Chippa eye Jooste

JOHANNESBURG - Chippa United are in advanced talks with Orlando Pirates for the transfer of Wayde Jooste before the start of the season, SABC Sport reports. The 30-year-old right-back hardly played during the 2021-22 season as he was overlooked by Co-Coaches Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi. Jooste only managed a handful of games in the PSL and a total of 11 in all competitions, compared to the 28 he amassed in his debut season. He has one year left on his current contract with the Buccaneers.

JOHANNESBURG – After being barred from competing in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the ongoing 2022 COSAFA Cup, the Zimbabwean national team has now been disqualified from a third competition in two months.

The Warriors’ woes are set to continue following the Zimbabwean Football Association’s (ZIFA) failure to comply with a FIFA order. Earlier this year, world football’s governing body had demanded that ZIFA reinstate suspended president Felton Kamambo and Secretary General Joseph Mamutse, who were removed from their roles along with other members, by the country’s Sports and Recreation Committee.

FIFA deemed their dismissal as interference from the government, and subsequently banned the country from all their international competitions. ZIFA were given a date by which to reinstate their suspended leadership but have failed to do so, resulting in their elimination from qualification for the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022).

A letter from CAF to the Football Association of Malawi confirmed Zimbabwe’s elimination from the competition, with the Flames having been scheduled to take on their Southern African neighbours in the second round of CHAN qualifiers later this month, per Soccer24.

“We are referring to the suspension of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) by FIFA Congress from all football activities. Unfortunately, the association of Zimbabwe did not fulfil the criteria set by FIFA congress and is still under suspension,” the letter read in part.
