Duo arrested for possession of firearm, bullets
MANZINI – Phumlani Nkambule and Sipho Gamedze are the two men who were arrested for possession of a firearm and they are facing two charges.
Nkambule (32) of Mphosi and Gamedze (32) of Bulunga were arrested by a group of police officers on Saturday near William Pitcher College.
In the first count, the accused persons were charged with the offence of contravening Section 11(1) as read with Section 11 (8) of the Arms and Ammunition Act No. 24/1964 as amended by Act No.5 of 1990. It was said that on Saturday, while near William Pitcher College in the Manzini District, they were found in possession of a gun without a valid licence or permit. According to the charge sheet, they were inside a car, BMW 1 Series with registration numbers ASD 420 CH when they were apprehended by the police.
Meanwhile, in the second count, the accused persons were charged with the offence of contravening Section 11(2) as read with Section 11 (8) of the Arms and AmmunitionAct No. 24/1964 as amended by Act No.5 of 1990.
According to their charge sheet, on Saturday, while they were near William Pitcher College in the Manzini District, they were found in possession of a live round of ammunition of a pistol, without a valid licence or permit and thereby contravened the aforesaid Act.
They made their first court appearance yesterday and they said they intended to plead guilty to both counts. The Crown proposed that the trial date should be August 10, 2022 and said bail application would not be opposed. The court fixed their bail at E2 000 each and remanded them out of custody until August 10, 2022 for the start of their trial.
