Zambia lodges complaint to CAF
ZAMBIA ± The Football Association of Zambia FAZ has lodged a complaint with CAF about the match official in charge of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nation WAFCON loss to South Africa. The Zambia women’s national football team were knocked out of the 2022 edition of the WAFCON on Monday night, after Banyana Banyana beat them 1-0.
The game’s solitary goal came in the 94th minute, after a penalty was awarded to the now six-time competition finalists.
Linda Motlhalo slotted the penalty home and secured South Africa’s passage to Saturday’s final, but FAZ felt aggrieved about the officiating and has since submitted a formal complaint to African football’s governing body.
Complaint
³The Football Association of Zambia FAZ wishes to inform its stakeholders and football family that it has lodged a formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football CAF against the officiating exhibited by Ethiopian referee Lidya Tafesse Abebe during the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON semifinal match between Zambia and South Africa,” an official statement from FAZ reads.
³In a complaint letter dated -uly 18, 2022 addressed to CAF *eneral Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba, FAZ *eneral Secretary Adrian .ashala advanced six key incidences including the late minute penalty awarded to South Africa.
³We therefore wish to contest against the decision of the referee to award such a penalty resulting in a goal which decided against our team progressing to the finals as we call for a serious review of the game.
