MANZINI - The nation of Israel has shown its support to the kingdom in improving the health sector.
Yesterday, Israel donated personal protective equipment (PPE) worth E250 000 at the Central Medical Stores (CMS) in Matsapha. The donation, which comprised of oximeters, was received by the Director of Health Services, Dr Vusi Magagula.
According to Israel Ambassador to Eswatini Eliav Belotsercovsky, they were elated to participate in the donation ceremony. He stated that the COVID-19 pandemic was unprecedented on a global scale, affecting every country in the world.
“It is important in such occasions to help each other during these times. This is a small token of appreciation for our gratitude to the Government of Eswatini for the support of Israel for many years,” he said.
Growing
Ambassador Belotsercovsky further expressed that they were happy that they could help in this way and registered their hope in growing the assistance in various fields including healthcare, agriculture and the mining industry.
Meanwhile, Head of SouthernAfrica Division for Israel in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Belaynesh Zevada, shared that she and the then ambassador of Eswatini to Taiwan had worked closely and became close friends. She mentioned that the donation package was sent to Eswatini because of their love and support for the kingdom. Zevada highlighted that as countries, they needed each other to address global phenomena such as climate change and food security.
The director of health services said the kingdom was still recovering from COVID-19 which was experienced in the past two years. He said the pandemic came with challenges, the outstanding one being the shortage of PPE. Dr Magagula mentioned that some healthcare workers were infected with the virus due to this. He added that there was also a shortage of equipment such as ventilators, but with the assistance of some allies such as the Israeli, some of them were donated. He said this was evidence enough that Israel was a true friend of Eswatini.
“On behalf of the honourable minister and the Kingdom of Eswatini, we would like to thank you very much. In our language we say may the Lord multiply where it came from,” the director said.
