‘Swazi Bolt’, you beauty!

-

THIS is the day which the /ord has made, we the sports fraternity will rejoice and be glad in it. Sunday greetings The sports fraternity is closest to our hearts. They are the oxygen we breathe and the wind beneath our wings. We are here to serve them. Yesterday saw the whole country being united and rejoicing following news happening overseas. Yes, overseas as one can imagine

The entire nation is on cloud nine following the exploits of the country’s fastest man, Sibusiso µSwazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa. Although at the time of going to press late yesterday, Matsenjwa had yet to contest the final, he had already set the stage ablaze.

)or the few who could be in the dark, Team (swatini has not fared well in the on-going Commonwealth Games. Our swimmers, cyclists and boxers have had it extremely tough. The games, which are already approaching their climax, are being staged in Birmingham in the 8nited .ingdom.

)or most of the team members, it’s been a learning curve. We are consoled by the fact that our team members still have age on their side. They will still have the opportunity of attending more games in the future, which puts us in a good position going forward. Of course, we have said it that from now on we will be heavily investing in the youth, which is the future of any sport.

Matsenjwa has defied the odds to put our country on the world map. Qualifying for the final has been a step in the right direction and we are extremely proud of his efforts. Indeed, it’s about time he shows the world what kind of sterner stuff he is made of.

/et us all hail this achievement. And as stated earlier, his final showing should not really cloud what he has gone on to achieve in these games.

We have been saying it in recent times that it is now about podium finishes. We no longer take teams to international games for the sake of it, no. We want or rather demand podium finishes. Our athletes should bring back home medals. Matsenjwa put himself in an excellent position for a podium finish by qualifying for the finals, ahead of established athletes.

TEAM CHESS DOING US PROUD

Sierra /eone is still wondering what kind of truck hit them as Team (swatini cruised to a resounding -0 win.

This was on )riday afternoon. Team (swatini after a rather unconvincing start, has found its mojo in the on-going Chess Olympiad currently on-going

th in India.

This is the competition’s epitome stage. It’s more like the Olympics of chess and it was very crucial for our team to test their mettle against the very best in the world. 1eedless to say, Team (swatini is holding its own under very trying conditions, as they are facing countries that have loads of experience.

The boys’ team did us proud by outclassing their much more fancied opponents in the sport. The girls’ team, on the other hand, was scheduled to battle it out with Malta.

Well done ladies and gentlemen. /ong may such a spirit continue.
