MBABANE – Hosea Member of Parliament (MP) Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza has alleged that the then Acting Prime Minister, Themba Masuku, caused the riots in the country in June/July 2021.

MP Mabuza, in his evidence-in-chief yesterday, said: “Wagila tiga Umhlonishw­a DPM (the Honourable DPM blundered).”

The MP was responding to the allegation that he and his co-accused incited members of the public to riot through the speeches they were making at the time. The charge stated that he and his co-accused should have foreseen that there would be acts of violence as a result of their speeches.

MP Mabuza disputed that and said there was no way that he and the other accused persons, MP Mthandeni Dube and former MP Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane, could have foreseen that members of the public would become violent.According to MPMabuza, it was allegedly because of Masuku, who was an acting prime minister (PM) during the riots last year, that the members of the public rioted.

“The people did what they did because of the acting PM. Wagila tiga Umhlonishw­a DPM and the people became angry. We were always promoting peace. The acting PM’s conduct angered the people. He did something that was unlawful,” said MP Mabuza.

According to MP Mabuza, members of the public became angry when the acting PM, Masuku, announced that government had taken a decision to stop the physical delivery of petitions.
