Eswatini teams out of CAF Super League‘s E40m grants

M– The top 24 ranked teams will contest in the African Super League and this is minus Eswatini teams.

This is according to a press release from Cafonline, which was published yesterday.

According to the statement, the new competitio­n will bring together the 24 best teams of the continent, which will be known through the CAF Club Rankings. Some of the top ranked teams in Africa are Al Ahly from Egypt (no1), Wydad AC from Morocco (no2), Mamelodi Sundowns (no3), Kaizer Chiefs (no18) and Orlando Pirates (no11) to mention a few. Eswatini’s Royal Leopard is ranked 54 in Africa while Mbabane Highlander­s who were runners-up are not ranked while Mbabane Swallows is ranked 70.

“We are excited about the CAF Africa Super League and are confident that it will change the face and competitiv­eness of CAF and African football,” said Motsepe.

The CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) made a decision to launch the CAF Africa Super

League in August 2022. He said the League will officially kick-off in August 2023.

“We announced on July 3, 2022, that the total prize money of the CAF Africa Super League will be E1.6 billion, with the winner receiving E185 million,” he said.

“There will be 24 clubs from 16

member countries that will compete in the Africa Super League. Each of the 24 teams will each get E40 million every year. These funds will assist with transport and buy players for those teams to partake in this league,” he said.

Funds

“We intend paying each member associatio­n E16 million per annum from the CAF Africa Super League funds. We also intend on allocating E806 million to CAF from these funds for youth and women’s football developmen­t and for all its other competitio­ns to ensure that they are globally competitiv­e,” he disclosed.

He said he was happy with the progress being made with the CAF Africa Schools Football Championsh­ip and they intended on using the E161 million donations from the Motsepe Foundation as prize money to develop football infrastruc­ture and educationa­l facilities at the winning schools. Meanwhile FIFA President Gianni Infantino pointed his commitment and support for African football.

MBABANE – The pair of Sive and Mfanzile Dlamini played an impressive 49 points to win the latest round of the MoMo Quick Loans/ Letshego Mbabane Golf Club business league.

The competitio­n was played on Wednesday. They were closely followed by the duo of Siphesihle

Mhlanga and Albert Zungu on 48 points.

Coming third was Mongiwethu Masuku and former Mbabane

Results

The results were released by Mbabane Golf Club Captain Fisiwe Vilane yesterday.

She revealed that they will be playing the MTN Masters today. She also disclosed that among the golfers that would be playing on the day would be Minister of Commerce, Industry & Trade Manqoba Khumalo and MTN CEO Wandile Mtshali.

The Africa Super League will support the growth of club football, the constructi­on and maintenanc­e of football infrastruc­ture and facilities, as well as the training and the retention of football talent on the African continent. Efforts to get comments from Eswatini Football Associatio­n (EFA) Marketing and Communicat­ions Officer Muzi Radebe, were futile as he was not reached immediatel­y.
