(Proceedings resume)

Advocate: I’m asking you to show where in the speeches it says there was an extension of delivery of petitions.

MP Mabuza: I think counsel is running away from the question he had asked. (MP Mabuza reads portions of his June 24, 2021 speech).

“We take this opportunity Swazis to tell you what you don’t know. We have been in a caucus for five hours. What I like about caucus is that the MPs stood up and spoke in one voice and the Speaker adjourned the House sine die and all MPs but two, who are members of Cabinet, agreed in one voice regarding the issue of petitions, so no one today can tell you not to deliver petitions.”

MP Mabuza: That shows that we agreed on the petitions even though I didn’t use the word resolution.

Advovate: The question was, show the court specifically where it says on June 21, 2021, it was resolved that the petitions delivery would be extended to June 26 and 27.

MP Mabuza: I have stated that dates were not mentioned in my speech.

Advocate: Show the court anywhere that petitions delivery had been extended even without mentioning dates.

MP Mabuza: The advocate wants me to say other things. In a speech you speak according to the manner you think the audience will understand. I’m not sure if he is trying to challenge what I said in the speech. I request that my speech be not interpreted differently.

Advocate: If that was true, you would have told the press and public that the delivery of petitions had been extended.

MP Mabuza: I am a politician, when I make a speech, I do so in a political manner. I wasn’t speaking for government. I don’t know if the advocate has a way of delivering a speech. In a speech, I speak in such a way that politicians understand me. It’s my duty when I make a speech to support what I say with the law, which was why I reminded the people about the Constitution.

Advocate: If the resolution was true, you would have assured the people that in the House you had agreed to extend the delivery period, so they shouldn’t be worried.

MP Mabuza: I feel like the advocate is confusing issues. I said we agreed in the House except for two members and no one should tell the people to stop delivering petitions. He is putting words in my mouth. I wasn’t speaking for government. Government is too wide, it has three arms. I was speaking for Parliament.

Advocate: You said you read the banning order before June 24.

MP Mabuza: I didn’t.
