MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows proved to be the most ill-disciplined team in the 2021/22 MTN Premier League.

They lost six cases with the Disciplinary Committee (DC) and were fined a total of E120 000. Mbabane Highlanders were next with five cases and fined a total of E97 000. In total, the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) raked in E542 000 in summarily fines and fines from both the MTN Premier League and the MTN National First Division league in the ended season.

This is reflected in the PLE 2021/ 22 annual reports that were discussed during the eight-hour long Annual General Meeting (AGM) held this past Saturday at Sigwaca House.

Pigg’s Peak Back Swallows, on other hand, paid the highest fines in the MTN National First Division. They were fined E27 000 from two cases, while Young Movers were second highest with E25 000 fines from two cases.

According to the report, the prevailing cause of misconduct observed was the belief in the use of foreign substances to influence the results of

“PLE member clubs have been observed engaging in a variety of misconduct such as pouring of liquids, sprinkling of powders and salt, and a variety of actions supposedly for invoking supernatural forces to help our member clubs to win, which is another common misconduct that most have been prosecuted for. This bad behaviour is not good as it constitutes a breach of the 10 FIFA Fair play tenets,” reads part of the report.

The PLE then commended the match officials who were submitting comprehensive reports that enabled the DC to bring the culprits to book.
