MBABANE – It will be an interesting tournament, as Correctional have joined the REPS Pool Team open tournament.

The Correctional side lost 13-9 to the eventual national champions of a national tournament, Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS). The tournament was last held at Mbabane Theatre Club. According to the tournament organiser, Sandile Mamba, Correctional have since shown interest in the REPS tournament after paying the E300 registration fee. The tournament is slated for the weekend of October 22- 23 at the Police Academy in Matsapha. Those who are interested in joining for the single entry must be prepared to part with E50, while it will be E300 to join under the team category. For double entries, participants are expected to pay E100. Other teams that have registered are Manzini Pool Club, REPS, Mbabane Pick-Team and Lubombo Pick-Team.

“Correctional are one of the dark horses for this tournament. They have always given other teams, especially REPS a tough time during previous competitions,” said Mamba.

He said four more teams had shown interest in being part of the tournament, which is sponsored by REPS to a tune of E5 000.

“Teams are invited from all over the country. This is an open tournament in readiness for the next season. We are expecting teams from Lubombo Regional Pool Association and at least one pick team from Shiselweni, as there is an ongoing singles league,” he said.

Affiliated

Mamba said from the ongoing singles they will pick a team. He said a team from the Shiselweni would help sensitise about the sport. He said that would help in the mother body’s drive to have this region affiliated in the pool’s main tournaments.

He also highlighted that the deadline for teams’ registration is today at 2pm. After the deadline, a live draw will be conducted at Manzini Pool Club. The tournament will be played in a straight knockout for teams (race to 13). A total of three weekends shall be used to play this tournament. One weekend shall be used to play team events up to the semifinals.

He also said disclosed that for singles prizes, the winner will take home E2 000. The winning team will walk away with E3 000 and medals.

“Prizes will be given up to the fourth place for the teams’ event, and up to the eighth place for the singles category. It is worth noting that the prizes will surely be improved if the turnout is impressive,” he said.
