EDITOR’S CORNER!

- ... WITH PHUMZILE NDLOVU

Iofficially that time of the year for Entertainment Desk where we are busy with the events taking place every weekend, now starting as early as Thursday. It’s safe to say that the festive season is almost upon us, ku-busy.

We had a slow weekend last week, we only had one event on the Saturday seeing it was mid-month. The legendary South African artist Sjava was the headliner at the Mega Lounge Picnic. I didn’t attend the picnic; however, the team did, judging by the pictures he did what he’s famously known for. I first saw him on stage in Durban two years ago at DJ Black Coffee’s show, courtesy of Gagasi FM. He’s a marvel to watch, you can feel his regal untapped talent and the energy on stage, I think I fell in love with him then, such a great performer.

Unfortunately we couldn’t secure an interview with him as he was whisked away soon after his performance. Can we just make a plea to the organisers that they work with us, when these artists are in our shores to at least give us the courtesy of five-minute interview, so we don’t look like groupies when we try on our own to track them down after performances, we would really appreciate it.

Early in the week our lead was the story of the Gospel Awards nominees who will record a collaboration song, in line with the escalating gender-based violence (GBV) in the country and femicide. Bravo to the organisers of the awards, we pray that the message reaches the perpetrators, so as to stop the senseless killing of their partners and violence against women. It is sad that we are now reading about it almost daily.

We also reported that our beauty queen from Eco Tourism scooped second place in the Miss Eco Tourism globally that was held in Durban in South Africa last week, congratulations Shakira Mamba. Also Mukelo Gwebu made it to the top five at pageant, thank you ladies for hoisting out flag.

In the same breath of hoisting our flag, Country music songbird Cleopatra Methula also represented us in the Unites States of America, Texas and won an award. In fact she’s now a double threat as it wasn’t her first international win, congratulations my dear continue to use your God-given talent.

Finally, a local born beautician Bubu White scored her second gig as make-up artist when she did her handiwork with the ever lovely South African artist Nadia Nakai. It wasn’t her first celebrity face beat gig as she also scored one with Lamiez Holworthy when she was in the country few months ago, you go girl!

Now back to this week, Gcwala had a sit down with Mnqobi Tsabedze organising team of the Gospel Awards. Who told us about their life and journey? We also spoke to DJ Bigboy in our DJs corner, read about how it all started and how it’s going. We never leave the young ones out, hand them page seven to colour in, connect dots, and be creative with their activity page.

Remember; there’s always something good coming, remember that! Have a blessed weekend.

Mncobi Tsabedze is part of the organising team of Eswatini Gospel Awards.

Tweek on Gcwala we had the opportunity to meet with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) student Mncobi Tsabedze who is under the faculty of Media and Communications.

He is also part of the organizing team of Eswatini Gospel Awards, occupying a communications role, public relations to be precise. He is the youngest in the committe, driven by passion and love of gospel music. The Gcwala team met and set down with him, who then shared with us his journey.

HIS Tell us about yourself?

Well I am currently a Public Relations student at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, where I am pursuing my Associate Degree. Outside that I am an Events MC, social media influencer and content creator. I have worked with different major brands and companies in the country. Being a person who works hard, I always challenge myself to do better in everything I do, and that led to me getting the opportunity to be appointed as the Eswatini Gospel Music Awards PRO, and I am very excited about this opportunity.

You are the youngest member to be selected as part of the Eswatini Gospel Awards organising team, how do you feel about that?

Yes, I am the youngest member to be selected as part of the Eswatini Gospel Awards organising team, and for me I didn’t only take it as an amazing opportunity, but also a trial and a challenge to me as person and my career, It is a challenge that I excel, and keep up with pressure of organising such a huge amazing event.

What was the criterion used in the selection of committee members and how did you manage to make it as one of the organising members?

To be honest, I don’t know the criteria which was used by the project coordinators to select their team to work with on this year’s awards, but what I know is that when I received the email that they were requesting me to be their public relations officer (PRO), I was more than glad to be part of the team to create history on organising the awards.

What objectives do you wish to achieve with the organising team to make the event a success?

We are hoping to present an award ceremony that has never been presented before, from the Awards concept, to the awards day, we have worked so much to present something new in the eyes of emaSwati. I myself can’t wait until the final day of the organising to present this amazing event, which will definitely be on the history books.

How has the appointment of being one of the organising members of the EsMncobi says he always challenges himself to do better in everything. watini Gospel Awards motivated you?

Honestly I am still in awe that, I am part of the organising team for the awards, to me it’s a dream come true. In the past years, I was closely following the concept and the gospel industry at large, and it was in my wish list that someday I’d be part of the organising team of the awards and get to contribute my knowledge.

Where do you yourself in the next years? see five

In the next five years I see myself as an international brand, doing much more than what I have done now, and some of the things will unfold very soon.

What can you say to other young people who are out there hustling to build a legacy for themselves?

What I can say to other young people who are hustling to build a legacy for themselves is that don’t let success get to your head. If you’re speaking about your success, make sure your
