MBABANE – Striker Sandile Hlatshwayo was yesterday admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital after being in a car accident.

The star was quickly taken for X-ray upon arrival to the hospital, but it could not be established if he sustained any serious injuries. Team officials were not privy to it. Hlatshwayo’s car is said to have rolled several times as he was driving from their afternoon training session to Pigg’s Peak. The accident is said to have happened along the Pigg’s Peak-Motshane road by KaMagongo, near Forbes Reef, a few kilometres before another road accident involving a Toyota Quantum next to Nosizo Bottle Store which is by the roadside.

A source close to the matter alleged that Hlatshwayo’s car had a tyre burst before rolling several times with him inside. He is said to have been able to get out of the car by himself, but internal bleeding was one of the reasons he was taken for scans at the hospital to be sure he was not in danger. Swallows General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane confirmed that their player was involved in an accident.

NO OTHER PLAYER

Zwane said there was no other player in the company of Hlatshwayo. He had dropped off a passenger shortly before the accident.

“We will make the Mbabane Swallows family aware of the sad news. We will publish a press statement and inform them on the matter once we get a doctor’s report. I’m yet to see the player as he has been to the X-Ray scan. Swallows family must remain calm as we believe the player was not severely injured,” Zwane said.

Hlatshwayo’s mobile phone was out of reach at the time. Meanwhile, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the accident and said they were yet to get a report about the car occupant(s). She also said they found the driver had already been rushed to hospital when police arrived at the scene.
