EOCGA offices opening Feb 2023
MBABANE – The new Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) offices will start operating in the next four months.
The about E1 million worth structure will be officially opened in February 2023, as announced by EOCGA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwel Jele during a press conference held yesterday morning at the Mountain Inn in Mbabane. The construction of the structure was made possible through the support in funding by various structures including the International Olympic Committee and the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). Jele said the officials of these associations would be the guests of honour during the event.
“We are targeting February 2023 for the opening of the EOCGA offices. It’s going to be a big significant event in the sense that we are combining the opening of the offices with our 50-year celebration. In 2022, EOCGA turns 50. We had initially planned the celebration for late this year but due to logistical issues that had to do with the construction as well, we decided to merge the events,” Jele said.
Jele said Eswatini was being used as a model for countries that have constructed their offices . He stressed that this was a big achievement for EOCGA since it would be used as a model to be followed.
Jele further highlighted that EOCGA, through the help and support of volunteers had started phase one of upgrading the OlympAfrica Sports Centre. He said there was no particular budget for OlympAfrica’s facelift.
“There was a Board resolution taken that as we build the new headquarters, let us not leave behind the OlympAfrica Centre. We don’t wasn’t to open a new building while the OlympAfrica Centre looks dilapidated. We want everything to look brand new,” he said.
