Beach games facility for Centre
MBABANE – Eswatini will soon introduce beach games and volleyball is the first target.
The construction of beach volleyball courts is in the pipeline and according to EOCGA CEO Maxwell Jele, this vision will soon become a reality. Jele said the plan was to construct a facility that would cater not only for beach volleyball but other beach sports such as soccer. Jele said it was their vision to have Eswatini participate in ANOC Beach Games which will be held in Indonesia starting from August 5-15, 2023, as announced in the ANOC General Assembly held in Soul in the past week, where he attended alongside EOCGA President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa.
The ANOC Beach Games announcement was among the key issues and resolutions that were taken during the ANOC General Assembly as reflected in Jele’s report. “We are going to introduce beach games in Eswatini probably before the end of the year. We are going to look at other sports that can use the facility,” Jele said.
He also reported that the Association
of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), also held an extra ordinary assembly in Seoul, taking advantage of the fact that all African National Olympic Committees were present. Three major resolutions were taken during the assembly; Congo Brazzaville was approved the host of the Africa Youth Games, which will be held in the first quarter of 2023. Tunisia was approved to host the African Beach Games in 2023 prior to the World Beach Games. Ghana will home the Africa games in 2023.
