ESRIC’s E120 000 for darts

- BY PHOLSILE HLOPHE

MBABANE – Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) has renewed its commitment to the development of darts in Eswatini.

This follows a E120 000 sponsorship for the 2022/23 season. This was confirmed by the General Manager of ESRIC, Zama Ngcobo, during an event held at the Royal Villas on Monday.

During the sponsorship launch event, Ngcobo applauded the darts association for the commendable work they had been doing for darts. He further encouraged the association to continue using the funds for what they were meant for and acknowledged the role played by sports in the country.

“We want to see our sportsmen and women turning professional and earning a living through sports,” Ngobo said.

Accepting the sponsorship, Eswatini National Darts Association (ENDA) President Phumlani ‘Kofi’ Ndwandwe assured ESRIC that the sponsorship would be directed to the elite league competition and schools development. Ndwandwe then sang praises to all affiliate clubs who had, over the years, protected and promoted the sponsor’s brand. ENDA Public Relations Officer (PRO) Flag Nxumalo said the elite men’s team would start in the first week of November.

“We will also include ladies and have them play their own league so that they also improve their playing standards. Thank you to ESRIC for the sponsorship and we believe that darts players will choose ESRIC for their insurance,” Nxumalo said.

Notably, the partnership between darts and ESRIC started in 2010 with a contribution of E10 000 for the inaugural league. This year’s league will have 16 teams and over 48 schools taking part in the schools development programme. An under 25 series was also launched by the association during the 2021/22 prize presentation.
