Many inconsistencies under guise of culture

-

Madam,

We seem to have so many inconsistencies in this country under the guise of culture tradition. 7his is in reference to what is happening in chiefdoms. , have heard so many stories from people who have been looking for land to build their homes. , was shocked to hear that one person had been offered land for a huge sum of money. , was really left wondering how people are e[pected to build when chiefdom land has become so e[pensive. ,f one wants to buy a piece of land, he she has to part with a huge amount of money to pay the chief instead of the traditional cow which the chief doesn¶t want. ,magine how many cows one can buy with that kind of money.

7here is still some money to be paid to those who will go and see the piece of land at a set date. What a long and costly process ,f you add all these monies, you can see that this is close to ( . 7his person hasn¶t started building and yet has had to pay this much. 7his is not commercial land but chiefdom land. , wonder what those who are custodians of (swatini culture think of this because nothing has changed yet they are very much aware of what is going on. , would like to ask why we do not have a set figure for a cow¶s eTuivalence in cash for the whole country in order to stop all this greed?

We have seen the same thing happening when people pay lobola bridal price as families just decide how much they want to charge. $gain that is opening doors for greed. 7hese traditions cultures can only be preserved if there are custodians who make sure that there is no unfairness corruption in carrying these out. We would like to see action being taken against this and we love to see custodians of this cracking the whip on those who are out of line. 2therwise, we will not see an end to this and it will become the acceptable norm to the detriment of this country.
