‘THE ONE’, indeed the one
SUNDAY greetings Our brand-new partners, the official fitness instructors of the ESRC, the S-Team Fitness Academy, yesterday hosted what can rightly be dubbed the mother of all aerobathons.
The international event, which will no doubt go down as one of the biggest aerobathons in the history of aerobics in the country, attracted international teams, mostly from the neighbouring South Africa and Mozambique. As our partners, we obviously support such an event, especially because it encourages healthy living among emaSwati, which is something our programmes at the ESRC strongly advocate for. The pre-event was staged on Friday evening. Ten instructors took to the stage, as a prelude of what was to follow on the next day and indeed, yesterday’s event was the icing on top of the cake. It was the sweetest imaginable, as hundreds of fitness enthusiasts crammed the Mavuso Sports Centre hall for a day of fun.
About 30 instructors from in and outside the country were expected to take centre stage. At the time of going to press early yesterday morning, seven instructors had already delivered electrifying performances, leaving the participants, over 400 of them yearning for more. The Box, Step and Hilo were the highlight of the day. Making it the merrier was the fact that a sum of E4 000 was up for grabs. There were also trophies and medals at stake. There is no doubt that the well-attended event put the country on the map, as there were a lot of international guests. We at the ESRC encourage healthy living and we fully support such initiatives. We are overtly proud that our partners have come up with such a brilliant initiative in these tough times. On the same breath, we noted with pride our other partners, the breast and cervical cancer network pull off yet another successful walk to commemorate the breast cancer awareness month.
The Eswatini Tennis Association deserves a pat on the back after successful hosting the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Stay and Play Coaching Course for beginners.
Last Wednesday, the course participants were awarded their certificate after the two week-long course, which was staged at the Tennis Centre at Lobamba. We take the opportunity to congratulate the association for ensuring that the future of the sport is bright. Investing in coaches, which really is capacity building, cannot be taken for granted. Coaches are a vital aspect in any sporting code and the tennis executive has done really well to capacitate our people. The participants themselves can walk up tall, having successfully completed the course, which is something that gives them the right to start practising what they have been taught
We were pleased to learn of the initiative by the Table Tennis Association, which is under the guidance of astute sports administrator Percy Zulu, who leads as president. Yesterday, the association had organised a day’s workshop for aspiring and seasoned women table tennis players at the Eswatini Revenue Service offices, in Ezulwini. Having noted the minimal participation of the fairer sex in their game, the table tennis executive has come up with a brilliant initiative to increase the number of women participation in their sport. They deserve all the credit for ensuring that the future of the sport is bright, with more and more women participating in sports. We all know that women are among the most marginalised groups in society. They hardly have fair opportunities in the sporting world and unfortunately a section of the society still believes their place is in the kitchen. The truth is that women’s place is no longer in the kitchen. That is why we would like to commend the Percy Zulu -led executive for this initiative.
