Born Hazer Baxter, LaBaxter confirmed that the people of Ngwempisi approached her with an intention to convince her to stand for the position of MP in 2023.
“I wouldn’t stand in the way and the will of the people of Ngwempisi, but my husband will have to influence my decision.
“He will decide and assist me in the conclusion of the matter. He has been an MP and it wouldn’t be proper for me not to consider his advice on the issue.

“Ngicela nje kungasho lutfo kwamanje (may I not say anything for now) until I have consulted with him. There is still a long way to 2023 so anything can happen.
“I do understand where they are coming from as I worked with them back in my days at one of the leading health organisations. I worked with a lot of chiefdoms under the constituency and I believe it could be the reason behind the thought,” she said.
She further confirmed that she was personally approached by close to 10 chiefdoms and was asked to stand for the position of MP.
She said she respected her husband’s input and it would influence her decision on the matter.
If she is eventually nominated and elected into the august House, Mthandeni’s wife would join Nomalungelo Simelane (LaZwide) and become the second woman to replace her husband.

The 59 elected members of the House of Assembly are elected in a two-round system. Primary elections are held at chiefdom level to choose a candidate for the secondary election.
In the secondary election, the country gets divided into 59 constituencies.
Each winner of the primary elections then stands in the constituency that covers their chiefdom.
Further, 10 members are appointed by the King to complete the quota in the House.
