Senior Superintendent Clement Sihlongonyane (Front) was among the senior police oficers who went to Matsapha Police Station yesterday morning to attended the shooting incident.

gunshots were fired there.

On another note, the deputy police mouthpiece said the police tried to hunt the gunmen down after the incident, but in vain. She said investigations were ongoing and no arrests had been made yet.

When she was asked if the police service would consider beefing up security at police stations, Mnguni said security issues were not for public consumption.

However, following the continuous attacks on members of the State security organs, mainly police officers, the police service has been given E15 million to buy equipment.

The money was released to the REPS in the second quarter of this financial year (July 1 – September 30, 2022). This is according to the REPS Second Quarter Report.

It says the institution has already obtained authority to commit the funds from the Ministry of Finance. As such, the REPS reported that procurement logistics have commenced. They reported that during the second quarter some State security equipment like police protective equipment (PPE) had been delivered.

M- Kwaluseni MP Sibusiso Mabhanisi Dlamini’s house and three cars, which were parked at his home, were left riddled with bullet halls after he was attacked by unknown people.

The Kwaluseni Member of Parliament’s (MP’s) home, which is situated at Mbikwakhe was attacked by a group of unknown men, just after 1am yesterday and the modus operandi was similar to the one that was used at Matsapha Police Station about three hours before.

This made people, including some police officers to believe that the attacks were carried by the same group of people. In fact, they said there were a number of similarities between the two attacks. The distance from Matsapha Police Station to the MP’s home is about 6.4 kilometres.

Just like it happened at the police station earlier on, according to a source close to the matter, the group of unknown people stationed themselves a stone throw away from the MP’s home and fired a hail of bullets into his compound. However, he said they were using a vehicle, a mini-truck to be precise. He said he came to this conclusion after hearing its engine when the gunmen were leaving.

The source said it was impossible to count the gunshots because, surely, some of them were carrying automatic assault rifles, which fires multiple shots.

When this publication arrived at the MP’s home, which is secured with a wall fence and an electric gate, he was found attending to some community members, who had come to check on him. After the publication had introduced itself to the MP, while outside the gate, the parliamentarian said he was not in a good state to talk. He then asked this publication to call him in the afternoon.

However, when he was called in the afternoon, his cellphone rang unanswered and later on, it was not available on the MTN Eswatini network.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Inspector Nosipho Mnguni confirmed that the MP’s home was attacked by a group of unknown men just a few hours after an attack at Matsapha Police Station. She said three vehicles, which were parked at the MP’s home were damaged. She added that the police were investigating the matter and that so far, no arrests had been made.

It is worth noting that just over a week ago, according to the police, five men with explosives reportedly gained entry into the country through an informal crossing near Ngwenya Border Gate on Monday October 24, 2022.

In that regard, the police urged the public to be on high alert at all times and whenever they see any suspicious men in their surroundings, they should contact the police through their toll free emergency number or nearby police station commander.
