Keeps date stamps Agrees to hand over stamps, but ...

-

PPEAK – Prince Phondo finally agreed to hand over the three stamps in dispute, but he said he would do so on Monday.

Initially, the prince said he did not have the authority to hand over the stamps because he was yet to inform another senior member of the family.

He said the woman who had also been the acting chief, was yet to be informed about the stamps before he could hand them over. He said this was because he was also only tasked by the authorities to be in charge of the stamps.

However, Masheshisa Kunene, who is the Ndabazabantu, told Prince Phondo that the issue was that the stamps were not supposed to be in use.

normal

He said that under normal circumstances when a chief died, his stamp were not to be used. “It does not make sense to use the stamps of a chief who has passed on,” he said.

He lamented that often they would see people arriving with signed documents with the date stamp of a deceased chief.

Kunene said this had become a money-making scheme yet it was wrong to use such date stamps.

He said the date stamps should have been handed over to his office a long time ago, as they were not supposed to be in use. “Any document stamped with such a date stamp is invalid,” Kunene said.

adviSed

He further advised Prince Phondo that, all he was interested in were the stamps and that he did not have to bring in any other items belonging to the late chief.

“Any other item, you can take it directly to the chief, but I am only interested in the date stamps,” said Kunene.

Further, Kunene said there was urgency to the date stamps, as people were not being assisted as long as the old ones were still in the hands of other people.

It was then that Prince Phondo eventually agreed that he would hand over the date stamps on Monday.
